Comment by AmastaaA very fun encounter. Once you reach Lich King and bash him a few times (let out some pent up anger.) Jaina will freeze him. At this point, head out the door, staying with Jaina. You will be pursued by the Lich King, slowed. As you run, the Lich King will put up ice barriers, which Jaina will destroy. Protect her from the undead while she does so. Continue to do this until you get out of the cave, and helpers will come and cave in the cave.
At this point, the dungeon is done. Comment by ShirashEnsure that the tank is the last one in the running order. The enemies summoned will snap to the closest target when they spawn, so it can help in grabbing aggro. Just stay focused and it'll be over soon enough.Oh, and don't do what I did and try to battle the lich king while he's putting the beatdown on Sylvanas. I took aggro, he turned and whacked me for once 30k (as a tank), which applied a debuff that ticked for 40k. Needless to say, I died in short order. So yeah, don't be a hero.:P. Comment by FilmanI must applaud Blizzard for this encounter.
I went with some random people with the new thing, looking to just do the first one. I was mistaken. We had an epic adventure, from fighting giant frost.giants to killing some of my favorite dudes in lore. The part where I saw the Lich King and started roughing him up a bit was amazing. But what made it truly epic was the fact that here we are.
Waves of undead running after me. The slow Lich King, moving slowly after us. The ending really did it.
I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't done it, but the magnitude of this encounter made this patch worth it.Heres to you, those PuGs I met from Kalecgos. Comment by MythriciaAs a little warning when you first see the Lich King fighting Jaina/Sylvanas, be careful about running up and hitting him.I did so the first time and nothing really happened, I wanded him once and ran along. The second time, however, I got insta-owned the second I hit him while he was still fighting Sylvanas. We had enough time for a shammy to resurrect me and carry on, but it was surprising anyway!
And I really mean insta-own. No fast-ticking damage or AoE, just, instantly, pow, dead, kaput! So, be careful, it seems you might just outright die if you touch him, if you're unlucky. Comment by AmrunFairly easy 'boss' if you have a decent group.
Obviously you don't want your tank to die because then your group is screwed, but make sure you keep the dps up to the max so Chubby doesn't catch up to you.Don't run up to mobs, wait for them to run to you (with the exception of casters at short range). If you get close the the Lich King, it's game over for you. Blow all your cooldowns on the last couple waves, as you won't need them for the rest of the dungeon.Once you reach the end of the path, Orgrim's Hammer/The Skyreaver shows up, blasts the stone tunnel to bits on the Lich King, and takes you onboard. For completing the encounter, you receive one Emblem of Triumph and whatever rewards are inside the chest onboard the ship. Comment by wargame2n3pWe got to the Arthas encounter but found ourselves having a hard time killing all the mobs before Arthas got to Sylvannus. Our group comp was druid on heals, DK tank, and arms warrior, marks hunter and ret pally on dps. Our problem was getting the caster adds rounded up without getting nuked by Arthas' aoe. After a couple of wipes our tank said 'What if we try killing the mobs behind Arthas, in stead of in front of him?'
We opted to give it one more go using this strat. So we went to the left of the doorway where the script starts and let Arthas pass. He just walked right by us, paying us no attention. Then, when he spawned the mobs, they all came to us and we were right on top of where the casters spawned. We burned them down fast, rinsed and repeated through all four ice walls.
Made the encounter easier whereas before we were not quit getting it done due to the casters. The only caveat I will add is that you have to run like the!@#$ens after the last mobs are dead to be sure to catch up with Arthas and Sylvannus at the balcony. We barely made it, although I don't know if that's because it's scripted or because we barely made it!These are some fun new dungeons for sure.:)Cheers, and good luck! Comment by TerraCotiaSince the whole Gunship-blows up the tunnel at the end bit has already been spoiled, I'll add more detail to it:When you get past the last barrier and onto the platform of no escape, there is a 30 second period where Jaina and the Lich King talk a little more before the ship blasts the tunnel and the encounter effectively ends.As such, if you are trying for the 6-minute escape achievement on heroic mode, you need to be through the last wall with at least 30 seconds running. The timer doesn't stop until the tunnel is blown. As most everyone has said so far, this dungeon rocks.
Comment by WaterseekerIf you're slow and wipe. You deserve to die.
Easy as.In this part as he is walking towards you. Back.Remember back when you went with Tirion to the cathedral of darkness to find Arthas's heart? Remember how he obliterated everyone in the cathedral when he got ^&.!ed?
Hang your head in shame. The truth is we shall never truly defeat The Lich King. He's just got bored and has decided to go back to sleep for a while. And he's using Neltharion to distract us while he sleeps. Comment by genericnameSome people are curious as to know what happens if the Lich King catches them, others aren't. It's quite obvious you are the latter choice, and are simply replying to said comment so you can troll.

Personally, I had wanted to know what would happen if a Group couldn't get past the Lich King, I already knew of his innate AoE(First time running it, and I was a tad bit slow xD) however that struck the question of 'I wonder what happens if Sylvannas dies(Horde, yes).1 Million shadow damage is a wonderful way for Blizzard to say 'Too slow, try again.' Comment by TerminatedA couple of useful tips:- If members of your party die, the wall of rocks that the ship creates disappears after some time, and you can go raise them before looting the chest- Only survivors will get the achievement- Tanking aboms too close to the ice wall - which comes naturally when Arthas gets close - sometimes causes them to become immune to damage- It might be easier for some groups to have the tank focus on the aboms while dps go all out on the spellcasters- The DPS required here is much higher than any other Heroic 5-man encounter. I'd say 3k/dpser is the minimum to have a chance. Comment by Zillen101The last boss of the 3rd sub-wing of the overall instance, Frozen Halls, a 5-man.
In actuality, your original plan was to simply enter the Halls and find anything of value. This plan then swells to include stealing Frostmourne, and THEN to slaying the Lich King.Of course, the latter does not come to be. Upon entering the halls, Sylvanaas (Horde), or Jaina (Alliance) casts a spell to unleash all the spirits in Frostmourne.
Uther the Lightbringer is freed and has a discussion with the guide, revealing some rather interesting info, and telling them that it would be suicide to try and kill Arthas there. The conversation is interrupted as the Lich King strolls in and banishes Uther. He then proceeds to take the spell and summon his lieutenant's-in-life, Falric and Marwyn.
Your guide rushes after him, and, of course, locks the door behind them. You, the so-called heroes, must then fight off 8 waves of very strong trash and 2 bosses before you can enter the next hallway that leads to the Shadow Throne, the inner sanctum of the Lich King. You arrive just in time to see your guide get her butt kicked down to bout 200k and some health. Before she can die, though, she stuns him, and runs off down a secret passage with you, leaving the still at 20 million hp Arthas to shake off the stun and run after you. This fight is not a real 'fight'.
Rather, the Lich King creates frost barriers to cut you off, and while your guide works at them, you must defend her from waves of undead. After he has summoned the wave and the wall, he will activate Remorseless Winter, a crap ability that slows himself down 75%. Slows him down 75% OL' SCHOOL! Oh and DON'T let him catch you. Though trust me, its hilarious to see your buffed up, nigh-on impregnable tank get one-shotted in mid-jump and go flying down the Throne room stairs.
Comment by ReunilanaSome theroy crafting if you can kill this boss.27,890,000Hp:(6000 Dps X 3 players)=27,890,000Hp: 18000 Dps = 1549 seconds or 25 minWhen he is fighting Jaina he has araund 15k hp.15,000,000hp: 18000Dps= 833 seconds or 14 min overall.Well you have 6-7 min (not rly sure) to escape. So theoretical its not posible to kill him.But lets see if we get players who can each do 10k dps (Full Icecrown geared).15,000,000hp: 30000Dps= 500 seconds or 8 min overall.Stil imposible unles if you could escape last second and kill him on gunship part. (Well the trash will be mostly ignored till the boss is till close and its then zerged fast)But if you get 4 dps and 1 healer it maybe could be posible.15,000,000 hp: 40000Dps = 375 s or 6 min 30s overall. Comment by ShadowlygerBe aware that while it is possible to attack the Lich King before the fight and before your faction leader stuns him, it IS possible to gain aggro if you hit him at melee range, in which case he will turn and obliterate you in one shot. Any other time, though, I believe he will simply ignore you no matter what you do to him. Most I've ever done was at the end of the encounter, my group and I zerged him and managed to take.3 of his health off before the gunship opened fire and he despawned. Kinda despressing to see how little damage we can do to him. Your allies have arrived, Jaina, just as you promised.
You will all become powerful agents of the Scourge. The enemies summoned will snap to the closest target when they spawnWrong!
In each and almost every run since the patch day I did, ghouls tend to jump on ranged, no matter how far they are to them, obviously to interrupt. If tank is not fast enough to pull (can't blame them though), or the group is not clever enough to hug eachother, for the purpose of bringing them together and AoE them down fast before their big brothers come, there will be chaos.
Even if #$%^ happens, ignoring them and concentrating on big guys first, might help a little. Comment by SfyriTo those wonder if you're too slow the Lich King will walk up to either Jaina or Sylvanas and continue to whack them. He will continue to do so until either you clear the mobs and your respective escort breaks down the barrier and you can run for it or he kills them. If he kills them he will wave his sword and still their soul.
He will the proceed to blow everyone up. Suffice it to say if you fail to complete this in time you're dying, no way around it.
It's a nice, though possibly annoying, change to the usual leniency blizzard has in their previous wave events where you get to live if your person dies. And yes like said Ardent Defender will keep a pally up through the attack. No Immunity abilities will not work against him. Suffice it to say the damage either goes through the immunity or does SO much damage your immunity breaks and you die anyway. Comment by AaroYou need some nice DPS to beat this. Believe it or not, several groups I've been can handle the gauntlet before it, but simply can't beat the Lich King dash on Heroic; there are many mobs, many diseases, and many casters ready to aggro on your healer if he does so much as SNEEZES (and it's prime weather to catch the cold, damn it!). Those casters gotta go down quick, and the abominations throwing up AoE poison on everyone doesn't help make that easier.Warriors will find this VERY difficult to tank because they lack the large amount of AOE threat they will need to keep the mobs off of everybody. Everybody should stick to the same target as the tank to give them an easier time, and the tank should make sure to aggro as many of the mobs as possible so the healer doesn't get butchered.Really though, fun instance and intense fight.
You barely get any breathing room between phases, and I've been waiting for a Heroic as challenging as this one. From the way I understand the scenario, Arthas is going slow because Jaina's kiting him with that frost field, not because he wants to remind us of how godawfully slow he was in CoS. It's just really, REALLY unfortunate I've had to do this with people wearing blues. What's the gear requirement for this thing again?:/. Comment by Rikabu1.Is just me, or has Arthas lost his helmet in this 3-D model?2. Jaina: Ok, I%^&.ed him off, I can freeze him and keep him like this forever, but I can't move if I do that. So, I'm gonna put you guys in danger to be able to escape. Is that okay? Even if you don't want to, you have to.
![Party Party](http://i.ytimg.com/vi/5fADdFIh8tM/maxresdefault.jpg)
Because that's what you have to do to get those item level 232 epics at the end of this road. If you don't, no achievement, and no epics!(starting event).Fine.But we'd rather kick his!'
&.xP Basically what she and we do:P (we alliance:P you hordies have Sylvanas:)). Comment by ExtrawesomeHAX ALERT:POK so you can actually fight behind him and it is ALOT easier. What you do is, start the encounter with everyone but the tank, well into the room behind him and let him go out in front chasing Sylv. The tank will be hanging out on a platform straight out the doorway that LK RP walks out of. You can see it on the map above. Its the 1st jut of ice.well anyways, the small packs will pop in front of the LK and the larger adds will pop behind him right on top of the party. Just follow him up the path (not getting too close of course) after the 4th wave you can just run out and loot up. Comment by McvayAs of 3.3.2 he has an aura that deals around 2,000 damage per second to anyone within say 100 yards of him to prevent people from standing on that little block of ice while he walks by, called Pain and Suffering. However, you can still complete the event behind him, but instead of standing on that block of ice, you have to stand deep inside the building, as far back as you can, so you're along the west wall in a little hole, you can eventually work your way out of the building to 'chase' after him, but the Pain and Suffering has a good 100 yard range or so. Have 4 people stand in the little room inside the building, and have one person run up, start the event, and run back to the rest of the group.
Edit: Seems Blizzard has corrected this now too. The damage from being behind the Lich King no longer lets up once he gets far enough away. Effectively impossible to hang out behind him now.Oh really? We just did this last night (Feb. Stay in the room, let him walk past and be ready for some intense healing as he shoots the death rays back at everyone. I was healing this and did lose one of the dps but they released and ran back in and rejoined the fight.
Arthas keeps walking and eventually goes out of range and you don't have to worry about the shadow damage anymore. After that the fight is trivial. Just stay in the room and let the all the mobs come to you. After the last wave is down run up to the ship and get your loot.I have a feeling Blizz may put another fix on this though, as it's clearly not how they intend you to do the encounter. If you need to go this far to make this heroic trivial I really pity you and your groups. If an instance.can.
be made easier, it.will. be made easier.
You're severely underestimating how far people will go for a smoother instance run.I don't think it's really viable to hide behind him anymore, since having the Lich King far away is no longer an increase in this instance's survivability (it actually makes it MORE intense from my experiences with it, due to being so close to other people - violating the sacred 'personal space bubble' we're each entitled to.). Comment by AmrunA few tips1) Fight as close to the walls as possible. Silencers are helpful to drag the casters closer, though not completely needed.2) Make sure the tank is the closest to the Lich King, as this is the target the nonelite trash will attack first.
Laying down a DnD/Consecration/Swipe spam will quickly grab aggro on this trash. Bear druids and warriors should use it every round as a rage pick-me-up, especially if they are tanking.3) Speaking from experience, I can tell you that the final wave is a pain for tanks. While you will want to blow all of your cooldowns on this wave, watch Omen to make sure the tank is ready. Once the mobs start piling up, any death knights should use Army of the Dead.
It's extremely helpful.Other than that, it's mainly a DPS check for trash mobs. No DPSer should pull less than about 2.5k and no tank should pull less than 1.5k, ideally. Your total DPS here will make or break you. After the last wall breaks, kick back and watch the fireworks. You just beat what is arguably the most difficult WotLK 5-man. Comment by KingArthisArthas is a character that was the main character in the warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne.King Arthis.
I am basically the main character in warcraft lore and i was treated like a random npc in MY expansion Wrath of the Lich King. I am disappointed in my own loot and i should have just used that spell that instantly kills all players in the beginning of the fight instead of waiting for Ashbringer man to jump out of the ice and kill me. Blizzard has also lowered my intelligence level significantly and I make very very unwise decisions. I send the Deathknight with Ashbringer to a death sentence to bring out a ugly old paladin. Am i dumb or not? I let all the Ashen Verdict storm my base while i sit here waiting.
I dont send frostwyrms to attack unprotected horde and alliance bases. Am i dumb or what? I can teleport almost anywhere i wish and yet i do not teleport to assassinate Ashbringer man? Or other threats like thrall and the human king? I AM DEAD AND I DONT SLEEP YET I SPEND ENDLESS HOURS DOING NOTHING BUT WATCHING OVER MINDLESS DEAD. Comment by TheRealLinkAfter (probably hours) of trying, just was able to solo this today on my new-ish 85 Fury Warrior (ilevel 327). Just looked and my DPS w/o Berserk is 1.6K or 2.1K with.
HP is 108K w/o Commanding Shout or 114K with. Only buffs were equipped and being well-fed.Really literally everything had to go perfectly. Any slams are for sure, a welcomed freebie but presuming you won't get them you simply have to hit everything as hard as you can as fast as you can.
Once you get to each wall if possible (or even before), the ghouls will leap and automatically target you it seems. Those were cleaved and victory rushed down. For the rest of the bigger mobs, it would tend to be the usual Collosus Smash, Bloodthirst, etc.
Save retaliation for halfway through the fourth wall's mobs. Even then I downed the last lanky tall ghoul (not the tiny ones) after Arthas was far past me and nearly upon Jaina. At first I was thinking I had some darned luck as she escaped with 1 HP but I think the encounter does that for either faction's hero (Youtubed it). Had to even save myself via regeneration on some of the attempts as Arthas' AoE wears you down fast.Had me shaking and totally loving every second of getting my butt kicked.
Video to come soon. Comment by StakiyahA funny thing happened to me on one solo of this. One of the casters failed to spawn while Sylvanas was on the third wall. And the wall didn't come down. For dramatic and coding purposes, this event is set up so that no matter what you do, the ice wall 'just happens' to come down as soon as you kill the last trash mob the Lich King throws at you. If just one mob doesn't die before he reaches Sylvanas, you're S.O.L. If that mob never spawned, it CAN'T die.
But the script controlling the ice wall doesn't care.I blame overly-fast killing. I think I killed a wave too fast, and it bugged out the next wave. It's possible, though, that it was just bad luck, and the caster spawned in a glitched location where I never saw it. It's only happened to me once, so far. Comment by VolleynovaBlizzard's biggest mistake was killing off Arthas too early in WoW's lifetime. He was the villain when we think of villains in Warcraft and he was the ultimate boss, even more so than Deathwing, Kil'Jaeden, or Illidan.I always thought of Blizzard's actions as if Tolkien killed off Sauron in Fellowship of the Ring. No, Arthas is not the ultimate evil in Warcraft, but he was the one most people knew about. Suddenly the story is over, there is no purpose to move forward, and no more goals.Indeed, after the fall of the Lich King, World of Warcraft subscriber rates experienced player turnover and a large decline of individual players on a scale that had never before been seen in the game.Today's population of individual players is less than half of what it was when Icecrown Citadel was launched, and there is still another 6-10 months to go till Warlords of Draenor, an expected subscriber boost.
Wrath of the Lich KingWrath of the Lich King is actually a gauntlet event where you must escape from the Lich King himself. It serves as the third boss encounter in the.
It is tied to the achievement.Overview. After talking to Jaina/Sylvanas you have to flee together with her to the exit along the outdoor cliffs. The Lich King is drastically slowed down but summons some obstacles that Jaina/Sylvanas attempt to tear down. Shortly after constructing an obstacle, the Lich King summons several adds that need to be killed. For as long as the adds are undefeated, the obstacle remains solid. The Lich King, albeit slowed down, will approach Jaina/Sylvanas, instantly killing anyone within 5 yards.WavesThe waves consist of 3 types of adds: Raging Ghouls, Risen Witch Doctors, and Lumbering Abominations.
Each subsequent wave has more of what the previous one had (the only exception is the first wave, which doesn't have abominations at all, while the second one has one).Missing valuable info? Incorrect details? Please it to us!
